Track money lent and borrowed
Keep lending and borrowing out of your spending totals, where it belongs.
Lending a friend money is not an expense. Borrowing from your uncle is not income. Both change what you own and what you owe, but neither says anything about how you are spending. That is why Loans & Debts is a separate page rather than another transaction category.
A loan tracks money you have lent to someone, or borrowed from them, kept separate from your regular income and expenses so it does not distort your spending totals.
Recording one
- Open Loans & Debts under My Finances.
- Press Record Loan.
- Choose the direction. Money Lent means it left you and is owed back. Money Borrowed means you are the one who has to pay.
- Fill in the amount, the other person, and a due date if there is one.
What the statuses mean
A loan sits at Active while it is running and moves to Overdue once its due date has passed. Paid is the happy ending. The two that people confuse are the last pair. Forgiven is a decision you made — you told the person to keep it. Written Off is an admission that it is not coming back, whether or not anyone agreed to that. The distinction matters when you look back in a year and try to remember what actually happened.
There is a Forgive Loan action on the row itself, so you do not have to edit the record to close it kindly.
Why the detail view is worth opening
Open a loan and you get a chart of its projected balance rather than a flat number. If someone is repaying you in instalments, this is where you see whether they are actually on track or quietly slipping. A single outstanding figure hides that; a projection does not.
Filters at the top let you look at one direction at a time. Money Lent tells you what you are owed. Money Borrowed tells you what is hanging over you. Most people find the second list shorter than they feared and the first one longer than they remembered.
Adding new loans is a Personal Pro feature. On the free plan you keep full access to everything you have already recorded — you just cannot add more.
Worth remembering
- Loans never touch your income or expense totals, by design.
- Forgiven is a choice you made; Written Off is a loss you accepted.
- The detail view projects the balance, so you can see repayment drift early.
