Working in a document together

Several people can be inside the same Hitaji document at the same time, typing. This is real simultaneous editing, not a queue and not a merge afterwards, and it removes the worst part of working on a document with colleagues: nobody has to hold the file while everyone else waits.

The limit, stated plainly

Simultaneous editing of a personal document uses one of a limited number of co-editing slots on your plan.

Two things do not use a slot, and they cover most of what actually happens:

• Organisation documents. Editing together in an organisation document does not consume a slot at all.
• Reading. Viewing never consumes a slot. A document being read by twenty people costs nothing.

So the only thing that draws on your allowance is several people editing a document that belongs to you personally.

What to do about it

The answer is almost always to put shared work in the organisation rather than in your personal space. That is where it belongs anyway: a document colleagues edit should not depend on one person’s account, and if you leave or your permissions change, an organisation document stays with the team.

Keep personal documents for drafts and for work that is genuinely yours. Move it across when it becomes a team document — usually earlier than you think.

Sharing for review

If you want comments rather than changes, share for reading. Reviewers see the View only pill, cannot alter your text, and cost you nothing on your plan. It is the right default for anything you are circulating for approval.
