Moving, copying and running out of space

A tidy Drive is mostly two habits: moving things where they belong, and noticing what is eating your space before it stops you working.

Moving and copying

The file menu offers Open, Download, Copy link, Make a copy, Rename, Share, Move and Delete. Select several items and you get Move and Delete for the whole selection, which is the only sane way to reorganise a folder that has been accumulating for a year.

Use Make a copy before an edit you are unsure about. A copy is a real second file and counts against your storage twice, so tidy up the ones you did not need.

Moving a file into a restricted organisation folder changes who can reach it, because sub-folders inherit access from a restricted parent. Glance at the destination before confirming a bulk move.

Uploading several files

You can pick several files at once or drag them in: Drag files here, or use the Upload button. Each file shows its own progress, so a large one does not hide the rest.

The whole batch is checked against your remaining space before anything uploads. If it will not fit, nothing starts — you are not left with half a folder and a failure.

What counts, and what happens when it is full

Your personal space counts Drive files plus attachments in Notes and Tasks. Hitaji Chat attachments do not count. Personal and organisation allowances are separate pools, so a full personal space does not touch organisation storage. Unlimited shows as ∞.

When personal space is full you will see Your storage is full — new uploads are paused. Nothing has been deleted. Everything you already have is safe; only new uploads stop. In an organisation the message reads Your allocation is full. Clear space or ask an admin for more.

The fastest recovery is to sort by Largest first. Space is almost always a few videos or exports rather than a thousand documents.
