Work and personal, kept apart

Hitaji Chat is not one long list of conversations. It is two, and knowing which one you are looking at saves a lot of confusion later.

Organization and Personal

At the top of the conversation list are two buttons: Organization and Personal. Organization is your workplace — colleagues, team groups, channels. Personal is your own space, separate from any employer, and it travels with you.

Whichever one you are not looking at shows an unread badge, so you never have to keep checking the other side. If a badge appears on Personal while you are working, you can decide whether it is worth switching for.

The filter pills

Under those buttons is a row of filters. All, Unread, DM and Calls are always there, in that order, because they are the ones people reach for daily. After them come Threads, Groups, Channels, Reminders and Blocked. If the row runs out of space, the rest move into a More dropdown rather than disappearing.

Some pills only make sense in one context, so they only appear there. Reminders and Blocked are personal only. Channels is hidden in personal, because channels are an organisation thing.

How the list is ordered

On All, the list is grouped rather than sorted by time alone. Pinned conversations come first, then Recent — the five you have touched most lately — then Channels, then Groups, then Directs.

That ordering is the reason pinning is worth doing. Pin the two or three conversations you genuinely live in, and they stay at the top no matter how busy the rest of the day gets.
