What is a parent goal?

A parent goal is a bigger goal that other goals feed into — a year made of quarters, a company target made of team targets.

Making one goal part of another is what lets progress roll up: the small goals are where the work is measured, and the parent is where somebody senior looks to see whether the whole thing is on course.
